Skin care is important no matter what age you are. However, as we get older, your skin needs even more attention. Age can cause major wear and tear, which causes the collagen to break down, which will affect the color and texture of your skin. This leads to telltale wrinkles and sags. Here are some tips that can help your skin survive once you’ve hit 50.

Do Not Apply Too Much Makeup

Makeup can actually damage your skin, especially if it is been weakened by age, so go light when applying it. Make sure that it is quality makeup, and matches the type of skin you have. Remove it at the end of the day as well so it does not stay on your skin too long.

Use Sunscreen

The sun is one of the biggest enemies to skin that there is. It causes spots and wrinkles. Make sure to use a generous amount of sunscreen when it is sunny outside, and it should be at least 30 SPF. It is never a bad idea to keep some with you when you are out and about in case you need to reapply it.

Use Moisturizer

Using a moisturizer will help soothe dry skin and also keep it feeling fresh. As you age, your body is not as efficient at producing natural moisturizing oils, so it is never a bad idea to give it a little help. Cleaning your face too much, and using certain cleansers can also dry out your skin, so try to use them sparingly.

Exfoliate

At least once a week, you should exfoliate your skin and clear out your pores. Every day, your skin is repairing itself. The dead skin cells stay on your skin, however and need to be cleared away, otherwise you can have a tired, washed out look to your skin. Using a brush to exfoliate your entire body is a great way to keep you looking fresh and vibrant.

Get Enough Sleep

One of the best ways to keep your skin looking vibrant is to give it proper rest. Your skin heals itself while you are sleeping, so make sure to get no less than 6 hours of sleep every night. This will help with circles and puffiness around the eyes.

Keeping up a healthy skin regimen might not make you actually younger, but you can feel great and look great nonetheless!
